The only comments I will delete on sight are automated spam.

Anything that’s even slightly useful or relevant, I will leave in place. Anything that seems to be the result of a human making some effort to communicate with other humans, I will leave in place.

The sole exception to those principles: if someone posts a comment that is a vicious personal attack or egregiously bigoted in some way, I might be moved to delete it. But I’d go away and think about it for a while first, and I’d archive the contents of the comment just in case. And that only applies to vicious attacks on other people; vicious attacks on me are A-OK.

If I turn on comment moderation, it will be because this blog is under heavy fire from automated spammers at the time, and I will turn it the hell off again as soon as possible. The only comments I will decline to approve will be automated spam.

I’m pretty sure the above is as transparent as it gets, but I’m happy to take questions if you got ’em.
